JAMES Heathcote’s first-half strike was cancelled out as Debenham LC were forced to share the spoils at Team Bury on Saturday.

Heathcote flashed a shot past the post within two minutes after beating two players, but they had to wait until midway through the first half to go ahead.

A strong Debenham defensive line, with Shaun French and Lee Bloom, was prominent and it was from a long forward pass in the 21st minute that they took the lead, with Heathcote dispossessing a Team Bury defender before forcing the ball home.

More neat passing moves failed to increase the score, with the half ending as Debenham’s Ben Green and Team Bury’s Sam Peters failed with speculative long-range shots.

French’s blocked shot from a corner in the second half created a chance for Nathan Vincent, who fired wide before heading over Heathcote’s cross in a separate move.

The Hornets were made to pay for not pushing on and securing a comfortable victory when French was caught in possession and Team Bury broke forward, Harry Barker scoring a 76th-minute leveller after Sam Chilvers had kept out Ryan Taylor’s initial effort.

The ball hit Taylor on its way into the goal and Debenham were unhappy with the decision to allow the goal to stand, with the young Bury player seemingly in an offside position.
