Bury Town 5 East Thurrock United 2
A FINE first-half performance, in which all seven goals were scored, gave Bury a comfortable victory.
Bury went ahead in the eighth minute when Lee Reed converted at the far post from Danny Cunningham’s corner.
The lead was doubled four minutes later when John Sands, making his full league debut, ran on to a through ball from Kieran Leabon and rounded the keeper to slot into an empty net
Two minutes later, a comedy of errors in the home defence presented Sam Higgins with an open goal to reduce the arrears.
The two-goal advantage was restored on 25 minutes with a Sam Nunn header from a pinpoint free-kick by Billy Clark.
East Thurrock reduced the deficit with a header by Kye Ruel that went in off the far post following a free-kick.
Bury scored a fourth goal on 36 minutes when Billy Clark gained possession in midfield and ran on to slot past Richard Wray.
With three minutes of the half remaining. John Sands scored Bury’s fifth goal when he converted Cunningham’s free-kick at the far post.
The visitors started the second half better and substitute David Knights missed a good chance when through on goal.
At the other end, John Sands fired wide following a good run and headed just over as Bury returned to the attack.
There were few chances created at either end in what by comparison was a sterile second period, with no further addition to the scoreline.
