Needham Market manager Mark Morsley and club captain Sheridan Driver said they were proud of their team after pushing Cambridge United so close in the fourth qualifying round of the FA Cup today.
The Ryman One North side pushed Skrill Conference Premier Division leaders Cambridge all the way before Adam Cunnington struck with an 80th-minute winner.
“We’ve done ourselves proud,” said Morsley. “We would obviously have liked a draw and gone back to their place, but it’s not a bad result for us.
“Our priority is to get promotion, but we’ve had a great adventure in the cup in front of a big crowd and we’ll move on from here.”
Driver added: “I thought we worked really hard and we were always going to be the underdogs, but the boys can be really proud of themselves.
“When their players say we nearly embarrassed them, that’s all credit to our lads.
