Matt Dixon has set his sights on firing in the goals to help his new club Stowmarket Town gain promotion back into the Premier Division.
The 34-year-old striker signed for Stow earlier this week and comes to Greens Meadow with a wealth of experience under his belt, having played for the likes of Needham Market, AFC Sudbury and Diss Town.
And despite receiving offers to stay in the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division next season, Dixon decided to take the step down to play for the Old Gold and Blacks.
“I’ve spoken with the manager (Rick Andrews) who seems like a nice fella and all he can say is good things about the club,” he said.
“I’ve played with their captain Birchy (Nathan Birch) who gets on well with me. He told me about how they’re trying to improve and I’m more than willing to help them.
“It’s a new challenge for me. I got other offers from Premier clubs, but after speaking to Stowmarket I decided to help them out next season.
“They gave me a good offer and the target I’ve got is helping them get back into the Premier Division, where they deserve to be.
“I’m not going over there to make up the numbers. The whole team will need to be pulling in the same direction if we want to get promoted.”
Dixon will join up with the Stow squad for the first time next week, ahead of their first pre-season friendly against Felixstowe Harpers United on July 11 (3pm).
Stowmarket have also announced this week that skipper Birch and Dean Pleasance have agreed to stay at the club, while striker Wayne Proctor has left to play Premier Division football next season.
n Walsham-le-Willows announced on Tuesday night that Proctor, along with several other players, have signed for the 2015-16 campaign.
Lee Pacey, Charlie Webb, Tanner Call, Jack Brame and Andrew Wood all re-signed with the Willows this week, with captain Matthew Morton, Nathan Clarke and Josh Curry having already committed before their opening friendly against Crane Sports on July 15 (7.45pm).
n Mildenhall Town have boosted their squad with the signing of midfielder Luke Parkinson from Newmarket Town.
Dean Greygoose’s side, who start their pre-season programme with a trip to Hardwick a week on Saturday (3pm), have already added Diss captain Jacob Brown to their squad for next season.
n Thetford Town began their pre-season friendlies with a 6-3 win at lower league Feltwell on Tuesday.
Ian Fancett and James Dean both netted twice, with Ashley Thompson and Sean O’Donnell also on target for Mark Scott’s side, who host Wroxham at Mundford Road on Tuesday (7.45pm).
