Bury and Needham maintain unbeaten runs with impressive victories

BURY Town stretched their unbeaten run to four games in all competitions with an emphatic 5-2 victory over East Thurrock United in the Ryman League Premier Division on Saturday.

On-loan striker John Sands followed up his two goals against Chatham Town in midweek with another brace as all seven goals came in a frantic first half. Lee Reed, Sam Nunn and Billy Clark added the other goals to ensure The Blues all three points.

Needham Market remain top of the Ryman League Division One table after grabbing their seventh consecutive win with a 4-0 win away to Waltham Abbey on Saturday.

A Duane Wright double was added to by Sam Newson’s 19th league goal of the season and Jose Espinosa to maintain the Marketmen’s slender one point advantage over Grays Athletic, who hold a game in hand.

In the rugby, Bury St Edmunds recorded back-to-back victories with a 49-8 away win over London One North basement side Braintree.

With the scores level at 8-8 at half time, the visitors ran riot in the second half with an onslaught of points to finally secure a comfortable victory.
