THETFORD Town earned three valuable points at CUP to open up a seven-point gap on third-placed Whitton United in the Ridgeons League First Division.

Town took the lead on 11 minutes when Matt Dixon found Nathan Szyszlyk, who shot into the top corner.

Cambridge looked to respond, but it was the visitors who extended their lead as Dixon raced on to Bruno Tavares’ pass before lobbing the advancing keeper.

After the restart, the home side reduced the deficit after 65 minutes when a shot went through a crowded goalmouth.

However, it would prove no more than a consolation as Town sealed the win on 90 minutes when Dixon finished neatly for his second goal of the game.
