Bury Town’s top scorer John Sands has today completed a to move to the Blues’ Ryman League Premier Division rivals Canvey Island.
The striker - who has netted 59 goals in 105 appearances since signing for Bury in October 2011 - sorted out terms with the south Essex side on Thursday.
Sands handed in a written transfer request on Monday, prompting a bid from Canvey that was accepted on Tuesday and talks have been ongoing since then.
“I want to thank Bury for a great spell of my football career memories of play-offs, winning cups and the golden boot will never be forgotten,” said Sands.
“Canvey Island has offered me a move that i could not turn down by any means and I look forward to working for them.
“Looking forward to the future, I wish the lads all the best and hope to meet them in the play-off final.”
Bury chairman Russell Ward said: “We are disappointed that John has chosen to go to a club at the same level and a club below us in the league, but that’s his choice.
“The money side is obviously important to him, but we wish him all the best.”
With Shane Tolley suspended, Bury travel to Cray Wanderers on Saturday (3pm) with unproven youngsters Anthony Roulston and Ryan Taylor as their only recognised strikers available.
