Bury Town settled for a share of the spoils in a match they could count themselves lucky not to have lost against a spirited Soham side on Tuesday.

The game burst into life in the sixth minute as promising youngster Noel Aitkens lit up Ram Meadow with a breathtaking individual goal.

Picking the ball up on the halfway line, the midfielder evaded six Soham players before calmly beating the on-rushing George Lawton.

From there it looked as if the match would follow the form guide with Bury flying high in the league and Soham coming into the encounter in the relegation zone off the back of three straight defeats.

But it was not to be as the visitors responded from the setback finishing the half strongly with Bury goalkeeper Neil O’Sullivan coming to his side’s rescue to brilliantly deny both Jordan Gent and Simon Swinton.

But Soham continued in the ascendency after the interval and were rewarded in the 64th minute when a corner was inadvertently bundled in by a Bury defender.

And the hosts were left to thank O’Sullivan again as he reacted sharply to somehow keep out George Darling’s close range effort and seal his side a point.
