Assistant manager Ben Chenery has temporarily taken the reins at Bury Town, following Richard Wilkins’ departure by mutual consent on Tuesday morning.

The former Chelmsford City number two has also told chairman Russell Ward he would like to be considered for the role on a permanent basis.

Applications are being invited for the position of first-team manager, with Chenery the first to throw his hat into the ring.

Those applications will be looked through on June 16, with a decision expected later in the same week.

In the meantime, it will be down to Chenery, Ward and the board of directors to discuss terms with players and begin to build a squad capable of competing in the Ryman League Premier Division next season.
