Stowmarket Town’s newest signing Jimmy Attwood is set for an immediate return to former club Mildenhall Town tomorrow.
Stow visit Recreation Way for Mildenhall’s pre-season tournament this weekend, which could pit Attwood against his former teammates and manager Christian Appleford.
The draw for the semi-finals takes place at 12pm, with Yaxley and Sawston United the other two teams involved in the tournament that will be contested in matches of two 25-minute halves.
Attwood — who won the Thurlow Nunn League First Division with Walsham-le-Willows back in 2007 — is excited about joining the Greens Meadow-based outfit ahead of the new season in 1 5 days.
“I had a number of good offers, but for me it was all about finding a club where I’ll enjoy playing again,” said Attwood. “It’s down to Rick (Andrews, Stow manager), the coaches and the boys that made it an easy decision in the end.
“The club has big targets for next season and the signings Rick has made reflect that.
“I’m now looking forward to working with them and helping bring success to the club.”
Town were also boosted by the re-signing of captain Ben Garnham, who turned down offers from four different Premier Division clubs to stay at Greens Meadow.
“The club has clearly got ambition, which has been demonstrated by the signings Rick has made this season,” said Garnham. “The management have clear objectives where they want to take the club and I’m looking forward to helping them achieve these.”
Stow were set to visit Felixstowe and Walton United last night before tomorrow’s pre-season tournament.
The Old Gold and Blacks complete a run of three games in five days with a trip to Walsham-le-Willows on Monday night (7.45pm).
Rick Andrews’ side will start the 2014/15 season at March Town United after the First Division fixtures were released on Monday.
Town visit The GER Sports Ground on August 9, before hosting Team Bury for their first home match on August 12.
Team Bury begin the new campaign at home to Woodbridge Town, while Needham Market Reserves kick-off with a trip to Dereham Town Reserves.
The Marketmen then entertain Long Melford at Bloomfields on August 13.
