Mildenhall Town’s newest signing Adam Murray has been acclaimed as ‘one of the best defenders in the Thurlow Nunn League’.

Hall manager Christian Appleford completed the signing of Murray from fellow Premier Division side Ely City last week and rates him highly as one of the league’s best in his position in the centre of defence.

“Adam is a big signing for us,” explained Appleford. “There were several teams in leagues higher up after him. He’s one of the best, if not the best, defender in this league.

“He’s a player that we’ve been looking to get at Mildenhall for a while and I put an approach in for him last year which unfortunately didn’t come off.”

The Mildenhall boss had new director of football Alan Alsop to thank for helping him get his man this time round.

“Alan managed Murray before so we got to sit down with him and talk and he likes what we’re trying to do here.

“Adam’s going to be a big part of what we want to achieve next season.”

Mildenhall won 3-0 against Soham Town Rangers on Tuesday night in their first pre-season outing.

Appleford’s side welcome Skrill Conference Premier’s Cambridge United to Recreation Way tonight (7.45pm) before hosting Bury Town of the Ryman League Premier Division on Tuesday (7.30pm).

Thetford Town continued their pre-season schedule with a 3-1 triumph against Mundford on Tuesday.

The Brecklanders were set to host Great Yarmouth Town last night at Mundford Road in their latest friendly fixture.

Town were boosted by the news last week that their former captain Ashley Thompson had returned to the club from Team Bury, a move which Thetford boss Mark Scott was delighted
to have completed ahead of the new season in three
weeks’ time.

“Ash was a target of mine and I’m pleased to have got him,” said Scott.

Thetford lost 2-0 to Ryman League Division One North outfit Wroxham on Friday, but Scott was pleased with how his side performed against their higher-placed opponents.

“Ryan Skipp was outstanding against Wroxham,” said Scott. “He played up top on his own and I’m hoping he can step up this season.”

Scott is also hopeful of re-signing Jordan Rocastle for next season, despite the striker featuring in Premier Division rivals Diss Town’s friendly last week.

Stowmarket Town started their pre-season friendlies with a 3-1 victory away at Grundisburgh on Wednesday.

Earlier this week, Town confirmed the signing of central defender Stefan Marsh.

The former Suffolk Under-18s captain — who has had previous spells at Wood-bridge Town and Needham Market — is back playing football after spending
several years out of the

Stow visit Premier Division side Felixstowe and Walton United on Thursday (7.15pm) for their next pre-season friendly.
