Fightback is in vain as Bury suffer third defeat

Bury slipped to their third successive Division Two North defeat, going down 3-2 to Cambridge Nomads. Bury came back twice to level the score but a decisive third goal midway through the second half saw the visitors take all the points.

Bury II lost their Division Four North East match against Ipswich Cranes 3-2, despite a positive start.They conceded a breakaway goal, but hit back through Steve Tassel. The second half saw Bury concede twice more before finishing strongly with a goal from Richard Peck.

Bury III travelled to Watton sitting second in Division Five North East, but were beaten 2-1. Harry Gale put them ahead just before the interval. The second half saw Watton take the game to Bury, scoring early and late.

Bury IV hosted Dereham in Division Five North East, winning 6-3. In the first 15 minutes Bury found themselves three goals ahead, and ended the half 5-0 up. In the second half Bury took their foot off the gas, but still enjoyed a comfortable win.

Bury V won 6-3 at Ipswich Cranes in Division Six North East, scoring four goals in the last 15 minutes. Robert Rush scored a hat-trick, with the other goals coming from Bass, Hollingsworth and Dykes.

Bury VI lost 7-0 at Sudbury in Division Seven North East. While Bury defended well, the superior player skill and team organisation of Sudbury saw them in control. Alan Dures came out of retirement and played in goal for Bury and made several excellent saves.

Bury Ladies beat Christchurch 7-0 in East League Division Two North East to go top. Scorers were Jo Chapman (3), Maz Chapman, Laura Harker, Dom Dyball, Georgina Snelling (flick) as Bury kept the pressure on from the start.

In the first round of the England Hockey under-18 Cup Bury under-18 boys beat Norwich Dragons 2-1 with goals from Ben Whittaker and Dom Corbett. They will host Peterborough in the next round on November 8.
