Supporters get a chance to Mildenhall Fen Tigers' new-look National League side at West Row event
Fans of the Mildenhall Fen Tigers received their first glimpse of the National League outfit’s new-look side on Saturday at the club’s annual Meet The Riders event, writes Graham Clark.
Around 130 fans packed into the main bar at Mildenhall Stadium as each of the seven riders were introduced to supporters along with new team manager Malcolm Vasey.
“The Meet The Riders event went very well and seemed to be enjoyed by the crowd,” said Phil Kirk, joint general manager.
“All the lads spoke very well and are now just looking forward to getting the season started.”
On Sunday a number of the Fen Tigers team were in action as they continued their build-up to the new season.
David Wallinger and Elliot Kelly both took part in an amateur meeting at Scunthorpe, while in action at Rye House was Sam Bebee, Charlie Brooks, Jason Edwards, Macauley Leek and number eight Sam Norris.
“I was down at Rye House and all the lads looked to be very switched on. I was particularly taken by Sam Norris who had one fall but bounced straight back up again and looked really slick,” added Kirk.
“Up at Scunthorpe Elliot Kelly I was told beat a few experienced riders including Jamie Halder, who rode for Coventry last season, in one race.”
The club will host its official Press and Practice event at Mildenhall Stadium on Friday, April 12.
Twenty four hours later the club will stage a training day featuring the 2019 Fen Tigers team and a number of other riders without National League places. Both events start at 11am and are free to attend.
