Famous racing auctioneers to host second sports awards
The second ever West Suffolk Sports Awards will be held at an iconic venue in Newmarket later this year, with Iliffe Media contributing as media partner.
The 2018 event will be held at Tattersalls, a unique and stunning stage for the annual awards ceremony – an amalgamation of the St Edmundsbury and Forest Heath council's sports awards.
It will provide the perfect backdrop for the glittering celebration due to be held on September 27.
And Iliffe Media will again sponsor the People's Champion award, this year split into Young (under 18s) and Adult prizes.
During the evening event, West Suffolk's great sporting community, including sports men and women, volunteers, coaches, parents, teachers and clubs will battle over 12 possible categories.
Nominations for the awards, which are delivered by Abbeycroft Leisure on behalf of the councils, are now open online with twelve categories available including Sports Personality, Unsung Hero, Club of the Year, Lifetime Achievement and School of the Year award.
Abbeycroft Leisure's chief executive officer Warren Smyth said: "After the success of last year's awards, held in St Edmundsbury Cathedral, we wanted another unique venue in which to showcase West Suffolk's sporting talent, and so we're thrilled to be partnering with Tattersalls."
Abbeycroft Leisure also announced Greene King as headline sponsor again this year, and will be working with local companies to sponsor individual awards ahead of the evening.
Greene King's regional sales manager, James Ramm, said: "As a Bury St Edmunds-based brewer and supporter of sport at every level, it was a natural choice for us to once again back our local sports awards.
"These awards recognise the outstanding achievements of new and established talent in our community and we wish everyone the best of luck as the nominations open.
"The ceremony itself will be a fantastic occasion, with beers fresh from our Westgate brewery available to guests, and an evening that celebrates the best of West Suffolk."
Tess Youngs, event manager at Tattersalls said the venue was 'delighted' to play host to an awards ceremony that recognised all the great achievements of local groups as well as individuals.
She said: "West Suffolk has great sporting communities, and all will be welcomed to the unique Sale Ring at Tattersalls Newmarket to celebrate a successful year."
Cllr Andy Drummond and Cllr Joanna Rayner, cabinet members for leisure and culture respectively at Forest Heath District Council and St Edmundsbury Borough Council said they hoped the awards could highlight hard work as well as inspire others.
