Milton Elenge is in line to make his debut as Bury Town bid to end their dismal run of seven consecutive defeats when they travel to Enfield Town tomorrow (3pm).

The ex-Cheshunt centre-half joined the Blues ahead of Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at home to Wingate and Finchley, but was an unused substitute against one of his former clubs.

And Bury manager Ben Chenery believes Elenge will bring some much-needed steel to the heart of the Blues’ backline.

“He’s big, strong and athletic,” said the Blues’ boss. “He loves defending and will be a breath of fresh air at the back.”

Chenery confirmed Miles Smith is to take a break from football, but the ex-Histon defender remains registered at Ram Meadow.

Ipswich Town loanee Jack Willbye has asked for his spell at Bury to be terminated as he recovers from a knee injury and prepares for exams he hopes will earn him a scholarship in America.

Bury showed plenty of fight on Saturday, but two goals and a red card for Callum Bennett inside the opening 13 minutes cost them dearly.

“It’s one thing reacting when you are two down and have 10 men because you can throw the shackles off,” said Chenery. “But it’s another thing to do it at 0-0.

“You have to be that person who acts as if they have nothing to lose and put your head above the parapet.”
