Dowds eyes step up after promising start to season

Stanton’s Del Dowds is aiming to make a name for himself in the MRO National Mini Twin Championships after enjoying a promising start in the rookie series.

Riding for Team Sublime Racing, the race ace has made a strong impression in his first full year competing in the 32-rider series, following up a 10th place best finish in the opening round at Brands Hatch by narrowly missing out on a podium placing with a weekend best fourth at Snetterton in round two.

And having moved closer to progressing from his rookie ranking with another completed race at Silverstone last weekend, the 31-year-old, who lists Ixworth Pykerell, Moremoto, Sublime designs and JLF designs among his sponsors, is already looking forward to making the step up to the full championship series in the near future.

“It is my first full year in the championship and hopefully I can compete throughout the whole season,” he said.

“I did three rounds last year and that was to test the waters.

“I have had a promising start to this season and it just a massive learning curve for me.

“I’m getting to grips with what it takes to be a rider and things are slowly taking shape.

“My main ambition is to step up and compete in the main MRO Championship next year. Hopefully I’ll move on from my rookie ranking in the next couple of rounds.

“I’ve led two of the races this year and so that is a promising sign for me to build on.”
