Clare clinches County Championship medal haul in dominant display

Bacton-based swimmer Thomas Clare blew his competition out of the water to clinch a medal haul at the Suffolk County Swimming Championships.

Winning 14 gold medals and one silver medal across the 17 events, Clare dominated his age group to take the title of top male swimmer in the 13 year old age group, showing why he is on British Swimming’s England Talent Development Programme.

The Suffolk County Championships signal the end of the short course (25m pool) part of the season so Clare’s focus will ow turn to long course and qualification for the National Championships.

In 2014 the youngster clinched the ASA National Championship title in the 12 year-old age group in both the 100 and 200 back stroke events. This year due to changes in the competition structure – meaning all swimmers are grouped according to their age on 31st December – he will face stiffer competition in the 14-years age bracket.
