CAPTAINCY SWITCH: Connor Coles is passing on the captaincy of the Fen Tigers to Jon Armstrong.

Mildenhall Fen Tigers have confirmed that Jon Armstrong will take over the captaincy duties from Connor Coles with immediate effect.

The West Row-based outfit announced back in December that Coles, who is the grandson of club legend Bob Coles, would inherit the responsibility following his recovery from the serious injuries that he sustained in action two years ago.

However, having struggled for form during the early part of the new season, Coles has now passed on the role to the experienced Armstrong.

“After a conversation this evening between Kevin (Jolly, promoter) and Connor Coles it has been mutually agreed that Connor will hand over the captaincy of the ‘KJM’ Fen Tigers to Jon Armstrong allowing Connor to concentrate on his speedway and regaining his best form,” read a statement on the club’s Facebook page.

“This is no reflection on Connor’s ability as captain but hopefully will have the desired effect and kick start his season.”

Armstrong’s first outing in the position will be at home against Buxton on Sunday.
