Bury VI were crowned champions of East Men’s League 7NE with a 3-0 victory over Felixstowe.

Bury were faster, stronger and more determined from the off and it wasn’t long before they were making in-roads into the Felixstowe half.

Mike O’Connell assisted Dan Osborne for Bury’s first goal to give them a 1-0 advantage at the interval.

After the restart, a well-worked move, orchestrated by Henry Whiley, was finished off by Dave Ellis.

The third and final goal arrived when Gerald Watts had the last laugh, helped by Alistair English, put the game well beyond Felixstowe’s reach

Bury maintained their promotion push in 3NE with a crucial 4-1 victory against Newmarket.

The hosts started strongly and were two-up inside the first 15 minutes with goals from Martin Sully and Ben Long – the former from the penalty spot.

Newmarket pressed hard to get themselves back in the game but the solid defence of Zac Grayling (man-of-the-match) and Phil Vernon resulted in few opportunities for the visitors.

Some excellent hockey was rewarded with further goals from Mikey Thompson and Owen Grisby before a penalty allowed Newmarket to score a consolation.

In the same division, Bury II lost 5-0 to IES.

Bury III won 2-1 against Felixstowe in division 4NE thanks to goals from Rob Johnson, Paul Calver and Paul Lawrence.

Missed chances proved costly for Bury IV in division 5NE who suffered a 4-2 reverse against Ipswich.

In the same division, Bury V hit five without reply against Harleston Magpies.

Bury Ladies lost 2-0 to Harleston Magpies in division 1N while Bury II boosted their 2NE survival hopes with a 2-0 victory over Ipswich, where Jo Chapman registered a brace.

An early goal from Lottie Adams set league leaders BuryIII on their way to victory against St Ives.

Daisy Allen doubled Bury’s advantage going into the break before Helen Mathieson added a third from a penalty flick.

St Ives pulled goals back, but Bury remain in pole position to clinch promotion from 4NW.
