Bury Town lose top scorer Ramadan to Leiston




Bury Town are on the search for a new striker after their 2017/18 top scorer, Cemal Ramadan, left to join higher-league Leiston.

The ex-Ipswich Town Under-18s player finished the campaign as the Bostik League North Division's second top goalscorer with 27 (including five penalties), despite Bury finishing ninth in the table.

Leiston, who beat Ben Chenery's side to clinch the Suffolk Premier Cup at Ipswich's Portman Road earlier this month, announced Ramadan's arrival over the weekend.

Ramadan returned to Bury following a loan spell last summer with the Blues having lost their previous season's top goalscorer, Josh Mayhew, to lower-league Stowmarket Town.

Chenery revealed the club had offered Ramadan a new deal to stay at Ram Meadow, which ultimately proved to be unsuccessful.

The 21-year-old took to Twitter to confirm his departure from Bury and to thank the club for their support in what he said was a very enjoyable period of his career.

Despite Ramadan having not agreed to stay on, the Blues manager had revealed to the Free Press that seven of last season's squad have committed to 2018/19, including forward Ollie Hughes, goalkeeper Luis Tibbles and Ollie Fenn, who ended the campaign as on-field skipper following Bradley Barber's impending injury retirement.

Those seven, with the others being Tommy Robinson, along with Tevan Allen, Ryan Yallop and back-up goalkeeper Ben Mayhew, added to the trio who were already on long-term deals; young talents Noel Aitkens, Ryan Jolland and Kryan Clements.

But Bury chairman Russell Ward hinted to their possibly being further departures at the club, saying 'big money' had been offered to multiple players of Chenery's squad.
