Bury’s winless run stretches to 10 matches
RYMAN LEAGUE DIVISION ONE NORTH
Heybridge Swifts 2 Bury Town 1
Bury Town are now 10 games without a win after Heybridge picked up three valuable points in their fight for league survival, writes John Alcock.
Heybridge started the better side and were soon on the attack.
Tyrone Alleyne broke down the wing and in to the box on 12 minutes but his shot was well-saved by Bury goalkeeper Neil O’Sullivan.
On 18 minutes, George Cole hit a powerful shot from some way out that spun out of O’Sullivan’s hands and just wide of the far post.
With Bury pushed back deep for most of the half, Heybridge made one of their chances count on 31 minutes, Cole picked up the ball out wide and went around Teven Allen and hit a stunning strike which flew in to the top corner.
Bury drew level on 41 minutes from the spot after Ollie Canfer was tripped in the box and Conner Hall slotted the spot-kick low past Danny Sambridge. Heybridge kept the pressure on Bury in the second half.
Cole shot just over the woodwork and Declan Hunt’s close-range header forced O’Sullivan into another good save.
The hosts Heybridge went back in front on 68 minutes from a corner, Phil Anderson netting a rebound of the underside of the bar.
Bury’s best chance to level for a second time fell to Daniel Hammett, but he was foiled by an excellent save from Heybridge goalkeeper Danny Sambridge.
