Bury St Edmunds racer Matt Carberry made a successful defence of his European Superstox Championship at Foxhall Stadium.

A field of 33 cars gathered in the pits where a draw for grid positions was held at the driver’s briefing, where ominously Carberry, the defending champion, was drawn out on grid four.

The 30-lap contest began at a fantastic pace as Carberry was flying and soon took the lead but to his credit, Northern Ireland’s Lee Davison got the bumper in, pushing Carberry aside to go ahead.

This was short lived though as Carberry struck back and went through and began to pull away, setting the fastest lap of the meeting on lap nine.

Carberry duly drove safely home after a faultless race to incredibly win his fourth European title, which have all been won in Ipswich.

Elsewhere, Stowmarket’s Terry Lawrence finished a close second behind Sarah Cooper in the Superstox Facebook Trophy.
