Bury Town have confirmed their first signing ahead of the new Ryman League Division One North campaign with striker Ollie Hughes joining the Blues.

Hughes played for league rivals AFC Sudbury for a short spell last season, where he scored nine goals in 23 appearances before moving abroad for work, and also enjoyed a successful spell with Walsham-le-Willows.

n Elsewhere, winless Bury St Edmunds Cricket Club (252-8) remain bottom of the East Anglian Premier League following a six-wicket defeat to high-flying Swardeston (256-4).

Sean Park (77) and Tyler Lortan (73) enjoyed much improved displays with the bat for Bury but it was not enough as Jordan Taylor (100 no) helped steer Swardeston to victory.

Meanwhile rivals Woolpit (221-7) had to settle for a general draw with Frinton (266-6) as their good start to the new season continued.

Andrew Northcote (90) impressed for Woolpit but Mervyn Westfield stole the show with a knock of 111 not out for the opposition as the spoils were shared.
