Bury Kings will be representing the UK in the European Winners’ Cup in Italy next weekend.
Players from Bury St Edmunds Tchoukball Club are set to fly out to Milan next Thursday for the competition’s eighth staging, which features the best teams from the continent.
Lois Rollin is one of the Bury players flying the flag next weekend, and is hoping to do her country proud during the three-day event.
“I’m really looking forward to it,” said Rollin. “It’s the first time we’ll be playing in this tournament and we’re up against some top teams.”
Bury face opposition from Austria, France, Italy, Switzerland, Germany and the Czech Republic, with the 12 teams contesting a round-robin during the first two days.
After two days of action in Rescaldina, the remaining teams will battle it out for the trophy on Sunday at the Spazio Polisportivo Felice Dozio in Varese.
Rollin already has experience putting on the UK shirt, having helped the women’s team to a bronze medal at the European Championships last summer.
“Last year we went out to Germany and to see all the support and to hear all the chanting was such a good feeling,” she said.
“We progressed quite far and finished third. It was a really good experience.”
Rollin – who has already been selected for the UK team at the World Championships in Taiwan later this year – is confident that Bury can repeat those heroics next weekend.
“To finish in the top four in Europe is a realistic target,” Rollin said. “Bury are eighth I think in Europe.”
