Bury captain Nik set for a spell on sidelines

An injury to captain Nik Ciappi compounded Bury I’s misery after conceding two early goals in a 2-1 defeat against Cambridge City.

Ciappi sustained a broken metacarpal from a ball strike, which will result in a lengthy lay -off.

A rousing half-time talk from Andy Tooke led to a much stronger second half performance in which Kieran Devlin scored with an impressive flick at a set piece.

Bury II shared the spoils with second-placed IES following a 1-1 draw.

Trailing at the break, Paul Whiting scoring the equaliser in the second half.

An inspired contribution by Lewis Dowling formed the base for periods of some exceptional team play.

Bury III produced a five-star display against Dereham.

Dominating from the off, Bury took the lead when Michael Thompson and Harry Gale combined before the former flicked the ball home.

Paul Lawrence, Rob Johnson and Tommy Freeman all added to the score before Dereham replied going into the break.

After the interval, Tim Thompson popped up to complete the scoring.

Bury IV were unable to reignite their poor start to the campaign with a 5-1 loss at North Norfolk, while Bury V thrashed Nomads II 8-0 thanks to a treble from Tom Barber, and two goals a piece for Mark Dykes and Mark Hollingsworth.

Phil Gibbs and Dominic Holmes were on target as Bury VI defeated Felixstowe 2-0.

Bury Ladies recorded a resounding 5-0 win over IES, with Amy Rush, Sinead Collins (2), Jo Chapman and Maz Chapman all finding the back of the net.

The II XI lost 5-0 at Lowestoft.

Livvy Rush scored as the III team drew 1-1 with Ely City.

Bury goalkeeper Mel Marriott made a fantastic sliding save to maintain the lead going into the break.

Ely levelled matters and Bury were unable to turn their possession into goals, despite some excellent play around the D from Teresa Smith.
