HAPPY BOSS: Ben Chenery is pleased with the character is team are showing at present

Bury Town boss Ben Chenery has praised his side’s character after twice coming from behind to pick up points and maintain second place, writes Russell Claydon.

After Ollie Canfer’s header gave them an 89th-minute winner in the 1-0 success at Brentwood Town on Saturday, the Blues came from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at Heybridge Swifts after Sam Reed fired in a 94th-minute penalty.

“I said to the players after the game against Heybridge that if it was last season we would not have shown that character. We would have gone a goal behind and felt sorry for ourselves,” said Chenery.

“This season we have instilled a determination and resilience. We have been patient and waited for an opening.”

Bury, four points off leaders Phoenix Sports with a game in hand, host third place Bowers & Pitsea tomorrow (3pm) before third-from-bottom side Romford visit on Tuesday (7.45pm).

“Saturday will be a very tough test for us,” he added.

Striker Ollie Hughes’ return from a broken wrist is set to be delayed by a further week after he had to undergo an operation on it yesterday, meaning he is still five or six weeks away, while Josh Mayhew (hamstring) remains out for another week.
