BREAKING NEWS: Stowmarket Town secure services of ex-professional Mitchell
Stowmarket Town have pulled off a big transfer coup with the signing of former professional Scott Mitchell.
The defender has turned out for Suffolk non-league sides AFC Sudbury, Leiston and Lowestoft Town in recent years, but has missed the last season-and-a-half due to work commitments.
Mitchell joins the Thurlow Nunn League First Division champions on an initial one-year deal, with the option of a second year, and will bring with him a wealth of experience to Greens Meadow next season.
Stowmarket manager Rick Andrews said of the new signing: “It takes us to a level we need to be at, because the Premier Division is going to be a hard ask next season.
“The experience Scott has and where he’s been is a massive coup for us and it just shows how far we’ve come in four years.”
Andrews also confirmed captain Danny Cunningham has agreed terms on a new one-year deal, with the option of a further year, and is hopeful the majority of his title-winning squad would be staying at the club.
“The majority of the squad have indicated they want to stay put which is fantastic news,” he said.
“We just need to add three, four, maybe five new players to bolster the squad in the areas we didn’t do as well in last year.
“I haven’t had the chance to speak to everyone (from last season’s squad) yet, but the initial feedback I’ve had is really good.
“We had a really good season and a fantastic trip to Portugal, which made the group even tighter and closer.”
