Leiston announce signing of Bury's Aitkens
Leiston have announced that Noel Aitkens has agreed to join the club from Bury Town.
The midfielder is set to become the second player to swap the Blues for their Suffolk Premier Cup final conquerors in recent weeks, with leading goalscorer Cemal Ramadan having signed on the dotted line at the Victory Ground.
Academy graduate Aitkens, 22, has become a key player in the Bury midfield, and last season scored four goals from his 38 appearances.
However, while Aitkens' contract with Bury expired at the end of last season, we understand his move cannot be rubber stamped until compensation between the two clubs has been agreed, owing to the fact that the player is under the age of 24.
The Ram Meadow outfit have also confirmed that they have offered Aitkens re-engagement terms, which must be rejected in writing under FA rules before a transfer can be finalised.
Should no settlement be reached, the matter will be taken to a tribunal.
Meanwhile, Bury have made their first signing of the close season in the form of Ryan Gibbs.
The attacker spent the 2017/18 campaign on dual registration terms with Needham Market at Step 3 and Walsham-le-Willows in the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division.
Gibbs scored four goals in 35 outings for Needham, while also finding the back of the net on six occasions in Walsham colours from 16 appearances.
