Boss backs Town’s plans for promotion
Mildenhall Town have applied for promotion to the Ryman League - which manager Dean Greygoose has labelled a ‘statement of intent’.
The Hall currently sit in 11th in the Thurlow Nunn Premier, 15 points off the top three.
But Greygoose is adamant that showing ambition will only spur the club on to move in the right direction.
“It’s a statement from the club,” he said. “It shows what we want to achieve on and off the pitch.
“There’s no point sitting there not wanting to move up the leagues.
“It’s a statement of intent from the club.”
Greygoose hopes a winning mentality can spur his players on.
“I’m only interested in being the best I can be, and I’m at a club that wants to be the best it can be,” he added.
“I’m not just here to get out of shopping on a Saturday afternoon, and I want people around me who think the same.
“I’m interested in players who want to improve and play at the top level, not just earn a few bob and play with their mates.”
Following the weekend’s 1-1 draw at Swaffham - which saw Matt Green on target - Greygoose is hoping Town can get back to winning ways on Saturday as they host struggling Walsham-le-Willows at Recreation Way (3pm).
“It’s a local derby and I’m looking forward to it,” he added.
“They’re at the wrong end of the table, so they won’t come here looking to roll over, they’ll want a reaction like we will.
“We just need to do what we’re capable of doing, work hard and look to win the game.”
n Thetford Town lost 4-1 at home to Ipswich Wanderers last Saturday and travel to FC Clacton in the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division tomorrow (3pm).
n Stowmarket Town were beaten 3-0 at Leiston Reserves in the Thurlow Nunn First Division on Saturday and are without a fixture this weekend.
n Team Bury, without a fixture last weekend, are away at March Town tomorrow (3pm) in the Thurlow Nunn First Division.
