Basketball round-up: County Upper Under-14s win big
Despite only having six players, County Upper Under-14 Wolves pulled out all the stops to thrash Bucks Hornets 74-25.
It was a welcome return to the fold for coach Moye, who watched his team destroy the opposition.
Michael Lacey bagged 27 points for the team, Corey Moye scored 20 points, while Freddie Barber and Lewis French recorded eight points each.
Sam Doherty and Ethan Doward were close behind with six and five points respectively.
n Essex Blades proved far too sharp for County Upper Under-16 Boys with a resounding 81-61 success in the National League East Conference.
Coach Darren Johnson said: “It was a tough day for our players today, as we never really found our feet and that allowed the Essex Blades to dictate a little during the game.
“They are definitely beatable, but we will need to bring the execution and attention to detail to the game if we are to beat them in the return fixture.”
County Upper were led in scoring by Lucca Beadle with 21 points and supported by Josh Hales with 12 points, Patrick Laycock with 10 points and Brandon Marshall with eight points.
The team will next be in action this weekend when they take on Essex Blades again, but this time in Bury St Edmunds.
n County Upper Under-14 Girls suffered a 61-49 defeat against Bucks Hornets in a physical and frustrating National League East Conference encounter.
After the game, coach Johnson said: “This was a tough one.
“We managed to beat them at our place, but unfortunately did not start on the right foot today.
“They managed to hit five three-pointers and took advantage of our slow start in the first quarter and this ultimately hurt us down the stretch.”
County Upper were led in scoring by Alex Popova, supported by Grace Spooner and Jenna Wright with 15 points and five points respectively.
The team will next be in action this weekend when they host Oaklands Wolves.
