Ben Barker finished in fourth place on an unexpected return to the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup last weekend.

The ex-West Suffolk College student jumped back into the MOMO-Megatron Team Partrax car at short notice ahead of the season-opener in Barcelona.

And, he showed no signs of rustiness by finishing just 1.6 seconds off a podium place.

“I’m happy enough with fourth place, especially given the lateness of the call to drive in Barcelona in the first place,” he said.

Meanwhile, in the same race, it was not such a positive outing for Bury St Edmunds-raised Matt Parry.

Two penalties meant that Parry finished 12th in race one and 20th in the second race.

n In the Classic Touring Car Championship, Hilborough’s Luke Allen had a relatively successful weekend at Cadwell Park.

Allen finished third in race one, having qualified in second spot.

Then, the roles were reversed in race two as he finished second.
