THE YELLOW lines along Nowton Road, Bury St Edmunds will be removed Suffolk County Council has announced today.
The council has proposed the road is made a clearway, which would mean that parking would still not be allowed but the lines would not be required.
Cllr John Griffiths, Leader of St Edmundsbury Borough Council said: “Now aware of what happened and why, we have both listened to our residents and reviewed the situation.
“As a result, we believe there is a better way forward and are working with Suffolk County Council to have the yellow lines removed as soon as possible.”
A consultation has been launched that could see the road made a temporary clearway later this month with the change made permanent in the autumn.
Cllr Guy McGregor, Suffolk County Council portfolio holder for Transport said: “The yellow lines were painted on a temporary basis using emergency powers.
“We are aware of local feeling about the colouring and lack of notice, but we needed to put safety first.
“We have already started the process for making the road a clearway and will consult on this shortly .
“At the same time we are investigating reducing the speed limit from 60 mph to 40mph.”
