Wyken Farmers’ Market will host a mini referendum tomorrow as estate owners Sir Kenneth and Lady Carlisle aim to find out if leaving or staying in the EU would prove most popular with the Wyken community next month.

Stall holders and shoppers at Stanton’s Wyken Vineyards will be asked to cast their votes anonymously from 9am tomorrow as part of a ‘fantasy ballot’ ahead of the official EU referendum on June 23.

Leaflets containing information on both sides of the EU in/out debate will be available.

Votes will be counted after the ballot box closes at 12 noon.

Jilian Macready, who is helping to organise the event, said: “There’s a lot of point scoring on either side and people are confused about what they will be doing – it’s a big decision so this will start a debate and be educational as well.”
