A Thetford road is due to close for around four weeks next month while a water company installs equipment to alleviate flood problems in one area of the town.

Anglian Water’s Thetford flood alleviation scheme will get under way on March 6 and is expected to take around four weeks to complete.

Part of School Lane will remain closed throughout but diversions will be put in place.

A company spokeswoman said they would try to keep disruption to a minimum.

She said: “It’s designed to solve flooding that has affected some properties in the local area previously. A new 2.1 metre storage chamber will be installed and this is why we need to partially close School Lane.

“Of course we know whenever we invest in our network and carry out work it is inevitably disruptive work, but we’ll be doing all we can to keep that to a minimum and complete the job as swiftly as possible.”
