A MCDONALD’S development on a busy roundabout has moved a step closer after further planning permission was grant-ed and an advertisement for business tenants was placed.
The development, planned for land next to the fiveways roundabout at Barton Mills, will also see a hotel, car showroom and petrol station installed.
An application for drive-through signage was passed by Forest Heath District Council last Wednesday. Although unwilling to confirm a date for construction to begin, the fast food giant insists that work will begin soon.
A spokesman said: “With a considerable amount of investment in new restaurants planned over the next few years, we are looking into a number of new sites across the country including the East of England.
“Plans are still being worked through, however, we are hoping to start work on the site in the near future.”
Initial permission for the four acre development was granted by Forest Heath in January.
Barton Mills Parish Council had no objections to the proposals, although there were concerns raised about traffic entry and exit at the site.
However, objections were made by Esso in respect of the use of underground fuel storage tanks on the site.
A similar application by Esso was rejected by the Secretary of State on appeal in 2009.
The restaurant, if completed, would open from 7am till 10pm daily.
