Poetry, music and crafts provide a fascinating range of performers for this year’s Woolpit Festival now in its 40th year.

It is focusing on local artists and opened on Wednesday with songs from from Laura Pooley, whose family live in Drinkstone, and Margaret Marinkovic. Laura is singing with the Welsh National Orchestra.

Tonight there is an evening of poetry and music with James Knox Whittet and the Suffolk Poetry Society followed by Stowmarket Concert Band tomorrow. Next weekend a new event, a Festival Day, will feature crafts, stalls and live music - folk from Addison’s Uncle and local children’s group The Greenshoots and duo The Larks from Beyton.

On the Sunday the festival rounds off with a flourish with music from the Churchgate Sinfonia at St Mary’s Church.
