Hanging baskets full of colourful flowers will attract shoppers down St Johns Street after a St Edmundsbury borough councillor donated part of his locality grant.

Risbygate ward councillor David Nettleton has given £780 of his locality funding toward the floral decorations, which will go up as part of Bury in Bloom.

Four winter baskets have been put up near the St Johns Centre using Cllr Nettleton’s funding, while the rest of his grant will pay for six summer baskets to go up around May.

Cllr Nettleton said: “I think they help improve the overall look of an area and will attract shoppers further down St Johns Street.

“I am pleased to be able to give some of my St Edmundsbury grant towards this.”

Bury in Bloom co-ordinator Melanie Lesser said: “The winter hanging baskets look fantastic and will add some real colour to the street as we head into those cold, rather drab winter months. We are extremely grateful to Cllr Nettleton for the funding.”
