LAVENHAM staged its first lighting up ceremony at the weekend when people braved the cold and watched as the market square and High Street became a white winter wonderland at the flick of a switch.
The theme for the first lighting up event was white and residents and traders had strung white lights on trees and above shops ahead of the event.
Becky Jago, from Anglia News, was the guest of honour and, helped by youngsters, pressed the switch at 4pm on Saturday which turned on the lights on the Christmas tree in the Market Place outside Lavenham’s famous Guildhall. The lights switch on resulted from a project between the parish council and the Lavenham Merchants’ Guild and happened on the same day that the village staged a Christmas Hedgerows Wreath Workshop and the Christmas Craft Fair at the village hall.
Tonight and tomorrow is the village Christmas Street Fair.
