A TEAM of budding bookworms have read more than 2,000 books in a marathon fancy dress fund-raising event.
More than 100 pupils, parents and grandparents at St Mary’s Academy, Mildenhall, got comfortable and cracked the spines of 2,072 books as part of their sponsored readathon.
Participants were also encouraged to add to the magic by turning up in fancy dress as their favourite book character or ready for a bedtime story in their pyjamas and dressing gowns.
The school is hoping the readathon will spark a reading frenzy among students, with proceeds going towards buying more books.
Wendy Garrard, principal, said the day was a success.
“This was a great day, children read together both inside and outside of school.
“It was wonderful to have so many parents and grandparents taking part and we certainly succeeded in motivating both children and adults to read,” she said.
