West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds is to embark on a £5 million repair project to fix a leaking roof.

The project at the hospital, in Hardwick Lane, is expected to be completed by 2018.

Executive director of workforce at the hospital, Jan Bloomfield, said: “The hospital building is now over 40 years old, which means we need to invest in improvements and repairs to ensure it continues to meet the standards our patients expect.

“This has included an ongoing project to replace the hospital’s flat roof, which we are forecasting will cost the trust a total of £5 million.

“This maintenance and repair work is always paid for by capital funds.”

A report published last year identified more maintenance issues at the hospital.

‘Interim’ measures including new staff accommodation were announced while bosses decide whether it should move sites.
