Independent review panel reports on West Suffolk Council allowances
West Suffolk councillors should continue to be paid the same basic allowance, according to an independent review panel.
West Suffolk Council's meeting on Tuesday is recommended to approve the review of members' allowances and expenses.
However, as it is a legal requirement to pay a minority group leader allowance – with the last review recommending setting this allowance once West Suffolk Council was formed and operational – this will be introduced and backdated.
If approved, minority group leaders would be paid an allowance based on the size of minority group, with 21-32 councillors set at £2,106, 11-20 councillors at £1,404 and three-10 councillors at £702.
All councillors receive a basic allowance of £6,018 per year.
The next review will be in February 2024.
