Beauty lecturer Helen Moye is on a mission and she’s after your bra.
Helen of Darby Close, Moreton Hall, is aiming to raise £1,000 for the charity Against Breast Cancer and she is wantes to collect 9,000 unwanted bras to do so.
Helen and her students at West Suffolk College have already raised £300 with a cake sale where they wore their bras over their clothes for the day.
Helen lost her friend Ann Staines to breast cancer eight years ago and had been collected unwanted clothes for the St Nicholas Hospice shop when she wondered what could be done with unwanted bras.
She said: “I emailed and texted everyone I knew and they have been coming in thick and fast. I even had some posted through my cat flap and found my smallest cat asleep on them.”
BCR Global Textiles helps small businesses in Africa through a textile project which prevents textiles going to landfill and provides bras for women in a country where it is expensive to produce them. It donates £1,000 to the charity for every tonne of bras collected, around 9,000.
To support Helen take your bras to the bra bin at the college reception or the In Vogue salon. See www.againstbreastcancer.org.uk for more.
