West Row Parish Council elect first ever chairman

West Row Parish Council’s first chairman has announced his priorities for the new authority.

Property developer Michael Peachey, 30, a life-long resident of the village, was named the authority’s first leader in the inaugural annual general meeting.

He said: “The main priorities in the first year will be to conclude negotiations with Mildenhall Parish Council – the authority we have broken away from.

“There are a lot of street lighting repairs we want to get to work with. We are also considering opening a new cemetery. But more than anything, we want to find out what our residents would like.”

He added: “It is the first time I have been involved with local politics but I have always been a part of the local community.”

Councillor John Smith, a key player in the council’s formation, said: “It was democracy and we are pleased Michael Peachey went for it, it’s great for the town.

“This was just the official bit and it will be the meeting on June 19 where we see the first proposals put forward.”

Rosalind Hamill was named vice chairman.
