Weekend to revive soulful memories

Have your say

SOUL, R&B and funk will be reviving some great moments of the 1970s and 80s on day two of Abbey Fest in the Abbey Gardens in July.

Organisers have announced the Saturday night line up which will feature Gwen Dickey, of Rose Royce fame.

Three original vocalists from The Real Thing will be performing some of the band’s memorable hits, including Children of the Ghetto.

Odyssey will be flying in from New York to perform their popular funk sounds. The band, now led by Steven Collazo, features vocalist twins Annis and Anne Peters and last year released their latest album, Legacy.

Ultimate Earth Wind and Fire, is the 12-piece band based on the original group founded in 1969 by Maurice White.

It promises to create a great atmosphere with some of those great hits.

Abbey Fest kicks off on Friday July 20 with Bellowhead and The Idiot Bast**d Band featuring Adrian Edmondson and Phill Jupitus.

Tickets are £33.50 and available from the box office on 01603 508050, at Balaam’s Music, The Apex and Theatre Royal.
