Website to locate defibrillators in East Anglia

A Hitcham man has created a website that allows people to locate their nearest defibrillator in seconds.

Simon Herbert, who has an IT background and works in computer repair, manually entered more than 1,600 defibrillators covering the whole of East Anglia.

He is now urging people to save the site into their bookmarks on their phone or tablet so it can easily be accessed when needed.

As well as locating the five nearest defibrillators to the person’s location, it also uses coordinates to lead the user directly to the defibrillator.

Mr Herbert said: “Some postcodes cover an area. You could be driving up and down the road looking for the machine, whereas the website takes you right to it.

“I built it as a community thing and have had positive feedback about it.”

He has also had people contact him to add their village or town defibrillator if it is not listed.
