Yellow weather warning in place as thunderstorms expected to hit East Anglia today

Thunderstorms are expected to hit Suffolk later today, with a yellow weather warning in place until 9pm tonight.

The Met Office issued the warning across the Midlands and East Anglia, where there is a possibility of power and transport disruption.

The north of England and Scotland are also expected to be affected.

A Met Office spokesman said there is a 'good chance' that driving conditions will be affected by spray, standing water and possibly hail and that flooding of homes and businesses was likely.

He added that delays to train services are possible, short term loss of power is 'likely' and that there will 'probably' be damage to buildings and structures due to lightning strikes.
