Bury St Edmunds will know its new prospective Conservative parliamentary candidate by Tuesday, November 4.

A special general meeting of the town’s Conservative Association will hold a vote by secret ballot to choose the candidate to stand in May’s General Election.

It follows MP David Ruffley’s decision to stand down next year.

The position has been advertised to prospective candidates with a September 17 closing date. The selection committee will meet in London for sifting on September 24 and competency tests for short-listed candidates will be held in Bury next month. The association’s executive council will interview short-listed candidates on October 25 before the secret ballot on Nov 4.
