IN CELEBRATION of Volunteers’ Week the contribution of three volunteers who have devoted their lives to the church has been honoured.

Ninety-year-old organist Beryl Waters, who has recently retired as churchwarden of All Saints’, in Redgrave cum Botesdale, was one of the three invited to have tea with the Right Rev Nigel Stock, Bishop of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich, at his house on Sunday.

Joining her was organist Mike Arbon, who leads the Stowmarket Combined Churches Choir and, since the 1970s, has been involved in raising more than £1 million for restoration projects for St Peter and St Mary’s Church, in Stowmarket.

Lay reader Mary Carter, from Flowton, was also honoured.
