The future of sports provision looks bright for a village which scooped a £49,764 grant for a much needed revamp of facilities.
Cockfield Parish Council won the National Lottery Funding from Sport England to make over their Sports Pavilion including a new heating system and refurb of the toilets and showers.
The pavilion is currently used by the village football teams and the council hopes the work will encourage more sports provision.
Cllr Janne Cutting-Keyton, project co-ordinator, said: “By improving the facilities more sports clubs will be formed and more people will use it. We’ve a list of people who’ve said they will actually provide activities.
“As a parish council we listen to what our residents want.”
They now aim to apply for further funding to replace the pavilion’s windows and provide new toilet cubicles as well as an additional ladies toilet.
More than 1,300 sports projects have received funding through Sport England’s Inspired Facilities - part of its Olympic legacy programme.
