A trust set up to refurbish hall in Great Finborough has received £10,000 from the Big Lottery Fund.

The money will be used on the next phase of improvements on Pettiward Hall including a new heating system in the main hall, smoke detectors and alarms and acoustic curtains and window blinds.

Committee member Mary Preece said they had received just under £25,000 in the last 18 months to refurbish the historic building.

She said; “It is our village hall that had been neglected for a long time.

“Before we started it was a bit of a dark and unwelcoming place.

“But we have replaced the kitchen, decorated, fitted roof insulation.

“The hall is used regularly so we have to work around all the bookings.”

Mary said the trust plans to carry out the improvements in the summer.
